Report on Covert Training Excercise - NTE - 9001/01
follows:

Located subject at 1817 hours on Monday 7th Febuary.

Subject was a white male short brown spiked hair,
around 6ft. He was wearing a blue T shirt and dark
blue jeans with brown work boots and was carrying on
his shoulder a guitar in a brown fake leather case.

The subject was walking up Flinders st towards
Swanston st in a casual manner looking around like he
had no particular direction in mind.

The subject then proceeded to turn left on to Swanston
st and continued down (not stopping anywhere) to
Collins st where the subject turned right.

At 1825 as the subject walked past the water fountain
wall at the city square, he put his hand into water
and dragged it along.

As the subject walked up Collins st he stopped at Mont
Blanc retail store and looked in the window for about
a minute and then continued on in a slow manner. The
subject also stopped at Fedral Pacific House to look
inside the lobby for approximately three minutes
looking like he was talking to a resident of the
building over the intercom.

At 1835 the subject then proceeded to turn left at
Exhibition st where the subject moved his guitar from
his shoulder to his hand for the duration of his
journey up Exhibition st to Burke st where the subject
turned right. He then continued to proceed in a very
casual manner up Burke st then entered the Hard Rock
Cafe. I waited for him for about ten minutes (until
1900) then considered the excercise to be complete and
so ceased my observation.

Dear Charles,

Report for covert training exercise as follows.

I reached the beginning position as per map at approx.
12:30pm. [Image 1] I observed passers by for a few
minutes, eventually spotting two policemen that looked
like good subjects. After switching on my camera I
realised that I was out of batteries. I walked across
the street to the corner 7-11 and bought some more. By
this time the policemen had disappeared.

After waiting a few more minutes a lady in a bright
yellow/green top walked by me, moving down Elizabeth
St. I chose her to follow, due to her dark skin,
braided hair and bright t-shirt. Seemed she would be
easy to pick up in a crowd. [Image 2]

Continuing down Elizabeth St, she strolled at a
leisurely pace but also with a sense of purpose.

As we approached Collins St. I noticed the little red
man flashing on the traffic light and the lady in
green begin to slow down. I then stopped and walked a
few paces up Collins St in case she turned around upon
stopping to observe her surroundings. As I looked
back however I noticed that she had made a dash across
the street. [Image 4] I waited for the lights to go
back to green, and then briskly walked ahead to catch
up.

I caught up with her at the next corner. [Image 5]

At La Trobe St, she crossed across Elizabeth St.

At the next corner she crossed to the other side of La
Trobe. [Image 7]

About 100 metres up La Trobe she entered the building
pictured. [Image 8]

---

The walk lasted about 23 minutes; she occasionally
stopped to look in a shop front window, and seemed to
think about going into Minatour. Not sure if she was
attracted to the bright purple signage (judging by her
clothes she was into bright colours) or was in the
mood for manga comics. After she entered the building
of her final destination, I waited outside for the
remaining 7 minutes.

Hope this assignment was completed satisfactorily for
you.

Neurocam,

First of all, I should explain the situation with the pictures. My camera was fixed yesterday so the Exercise was the field test for it. Unfortunately, it?s still more or less rubbish but there are four photos that I can use... I?ll try and make the most of them.

Ok... Here is your report.

This takes place on the date: February 4th 2005

At exactly 12:14, I arrived at the set location. Below is a picture (complete with handy neurocam style arrow) which points out the exact location you provided me.
<img src="http://www.geocities.com/neurostrings/arrow1.jpg">

From here I looked around for a suitable place to observe people. I chose to go across the street into the train station for the car park. From here I could observe the location that neurocam selected for me and observe much of the traffic. From here I selected a person that I could observe a person for 30 minutes as that is what my brief asked me to do, But because I'm such a law abiding individual, the person I selected was not my subject. I took some time to select my subject... which took a heck of a long time because I had already decided that my subject was to be a taxi!

At 12:45 I went out on a limb and selected a taxi that appeared to be delivering someone to the train station. The taxi was one from the ?loyal taxi company?. It was chrome green with numerous stickers advertising the Taxi Company. (There is a picture of it further down the page).
I probably should explain my plan. I was hoping that after the taxi had safely delivered it?s occupant to the train station, it would return to the ?Loyal? taxi rank... And I would trail it there and anywhere after.

Now, I hear you cry, How did I trail a taxi!? Well the simple solution is that I followed it with another unsuspecting taxi. My conversation with the taxi driver went like this...

Me: Hi, Are you waiting for someone?
Driver: Nope!
Me: How much would it cost to follow that ?loyal? taxi behind you.
Driver: Well, what do you want to do that for?
Me: It?s just something I?m doing for a psychology study...
(Note: With previous experience, I know that people usually accept this comment and also accept my ?experiment? despite the fact that what I said didn?t really make any sense)
Driver: Psychology? Yeah... um... I guess, All right.
Me: You might if I take photos?
Driver: Uh... I would prefer if you didn?t!
Me: That?s cool, don?t worry. How much will it cost?
Driver: Well that depends where he?s [the ?loyal? driver] going.
Me: Haha. Oh yeah!

How, I accepted that he didn?t want to be photographed so I didn?t but he was unaware that I had already photographed the car he was driving while taking a photo of the train station (as confirmation of my position). The photo can be seen below, also note that I am in fact at Norwich station.

<img src="http://www.geocities.com/neurostrings/arrow2.jpg">

So far I had only taken one picture of my subject which turned out to be a blur of unacceptable quality so I will have to explain what had happened so far. The taxi had dropped of its occupants and was about to drive past the driver and me so I hopped in my taxi and we were in pursuit.

Instead of giving you a detailed account of the boring journey we took, I will use the almighty multimap.com to draw out the route we took.

<img src="http://www.geocities.com/neurostrings/route1.jpg">

The red marker denotes the where the pursuit began and the blue marker denotes where the pursuit ended. The red line, of course, shows the route I took.

Much to my joy, my subject did return to the loyal taxi rank. This was at 12:57 due to ridiculously heavy traffic (considering the time of day). So I paid my driver a mighty £2.50 and thanked him... Now the task was to observe the taxi for a remaining 10 minutes, which would have been easy if the driver had decided to go into the ?Loyal Building?...
<img src="http://www.geocities.com/neurostrings/neurocam 002.jpg">

But he did not... He stayed in the taxi and read a magazine, which I noticed was a magazine called Maxim. So I watched... pretending to try and figure how to use my camera. I took this photo:
<img src="http://www.geocities.com/neurostrings/neurocam 003.jpg">

Which is still very poor quality but I assure you that it is genuinely my subject. It was all remarkably boring from here... Nothing else happened. I did however, observe my subject until 1:10pm, which must have been my look rather strange but since my subject was a car, it didn?t notice.

Final Time and Location: ?Loyal? Taxi Rank, Norwich. 1:10pm.

As much as this exercise was not particularly interesting, I did follow every procedure given to me and did not break the law (according to a psychologist friend of mine and a law student). I apologise for the lack of photos; I will take my camera back to the repair guy, as the pictures should have been much better quality.

Please contact me if this report is not satisfactory or if you have any other queries.
